ClarivoTap water is safe. That's not the same as good.
The UK's water treatment does the important work — but it isn't designed to deal with everything sitting in the pipes between the treatment works and your kitchen tap.
Hard water, everywhere
Large parts of England have some of the hardest water in Europe — leaving limescale in kettles and pipes, and a chalky edge to the taste.
Older pipework
Many homes built before 1970 may still be connected via lead or galvanised steel supply pipes, which can leach into water that's sat in the line overnight.
What treatment misses
Fluoride is added deliberately in some areas, and things like PFAS ("forever chemicals") and microplastics aren't part of what standard treatment is designed to filter out.
A quick word on chlorine
Chlorine's doing an important job on the way to your house — keeping the water safe as it travels through miles of pipe. By the time it's in your glass, though, that job is done. All it's really contributing at that point is a faint swimming-pool taste. Stage 2, our carbon block filter, takes it back out.

The science, in a bit more detail
TDS (total dissolved solids) is a quick read of everything dissolved in your water — minerals, salts, some metals — measured in parts per million. It's a useful headline number, but it won't tell you what those solids actually are, and it can't detect bacteria, chlorine by-products or PFAS on its own. That's why we pair the reading with a proper look at your water, not just a number on a screen.
Not for safety — but usually for taste. RO membranes are fine enough to strip out the good minerals along with everything else, which is what gives RO water its slightly flat edge. Stage 6, on Plus and Premium, adds calcium and magnesium back in. Standard skips it and the water's still perfectly good to drink; it just tastes a touch flatter to some people.
